Set Sail for a 9-Day Alaskan Adventure
We had initially planned to explore Alaska independently, but soon realized it was a challenging task to cover multiple destinations. So, we decided to embark on a 9-day cruise to Alaska. The cruise itinerary included port stops at Sitka, Icy Strait Point, Skagway, Juneau, Ketchikan, and Victoria B.C., before returning to Seattle.
To make our cruise even more special, Anthony surprised me with a balcony cabin, which gave us breathtaking views of the ocean and mountains, as well as the night sky.
Each destination we visited was unique and had its own charm. It’s impossible to list everything we did and saw, so here’s a brief summary of our experiences at each port:
Sitka
The Totem Trail and the Russian Memorial Loop at Sitka National Historical Park are among the most scenic walks, covering 1.6 miles. We also dropped by Harbor Mountain Brewery to sample their fantastic beers on tap.
Icy Strait Point
We had an amazing experience riding a mountaintop gondola through the lush green treetops to Hoonah Mountain. To top it off, we enjoyed an unforgettable lunch at The Fisherman’s Daughter!
Skagway
The White Pass & Yukon Route Railway, known as ‘The Scenic Railway of the World,’ took us to an elevation of 2,888 ft and provided breathtaking views of mountains, glaciers, gorges, waterfalls, tunnels and historical sites.
Juneau
Juneau was a true highlight of our Alaskan adventure, largely thanks to our extended family members who took us king crab fishing and whale watching. We also had the chance to explore Mendenhall Glacier and Nugget Falls, sampled local brews at Forbidden Peak Brewery, and indulge in delicious fish tacos at Deckhand Dave’s!
Ketchikan
We had a great time exploring Creek Street, one of the coolest shopping streets we’ve ever seen.
This honeymoon trip was unforgettable! One thing is for sure, we plan to return to Alaska for some backpacking adventures.
